"Krugerfarms.com Cup" - For Youth Contest Callers
CallingDucks.com and Krugerfarms.com are proud to announce a new feature on the site that will represent a new challenge for youth competition duck and Canada goose callers across the United States. For the 2011 Contest Season, Krugerfarms.com will be sponsoring the “Krugerfarms.com Points Race”. The “Krugerfarms.com Cup” will be a points race competition based on the outcome of designated youth calling contests across the country. Youth competition callers that are 16 years of age and younger will be able to compete in the designated calling contests in order to earn points towards a total. The individuals with the highest total in the duck and goose divisions of the “Krugerfarms.com Cup” after the respective World Championship for each will be crowned the winners. The winners of the duck and goose point races will receive a prize package from Krugerfarms.com (estimated worth $2,000), a plaque, and have their name engraved on the “Krugerfarms.com Cups” that reside at the store in Minnesota.
Krugerfarms.com and CallingDucks.com want to try and encourage the participation of our youth callers in calling contests around the country. We are hoping that the “Krugerfarms.com Cup” will provide an extra incentive for youth callers to not only participate in events that are local to them, but also to compete in larger youth calling contests within their region, and perhaps even the largest events for their age group.

Here is how it is going to work…
The staff at CallingDucks.com will select a group of youth calling contests, both duck and goose, which are spread out relatively evenly across the regions of the country (East, Midwest, South, and West). The staff will select these contests based on longevity and co-location with larger events that provide the opportunity for a larger number of competitors. The competitors who finish in the top five of these contests will earn points that will be included in their total towards the “Krugerfarms.com Cup”.
For each contest designated as being a qualifier for the “Krugerfarms.com Cup”, the points awarded will break down like this:
Total points awarded per contest16
Points awarded for 1st place8
Points awarded for 2nd place6
Points awarded for 3rd place4
Points awarded for 4th place2
Points awarded for 5th place1
The “Krugerfarms.com Cup” for Youth Duck Callers will have approximately 24 qualifying contests in which competitors can earn points towards their total. These contests will be spread out as evenly as possible across the Eastern, Midwest, Southern, and Western regions, with each having approximately 6 contests.
The “Krugerfarms.com Cup” for Youth Goose Callers will have approximately 20 qualifying contests in which competitors can earn points towards their total. These contests will be spread out across only three different regions, the East, Midwest, and West. In the 2009 calling contest season there were no (ZERO) youth Canada goose calling contests in the Southern region. To compensate for this fact and to allow youth goose callers from the Southern region a chance to participate, the Midwest region will have additional contests designated as qualifiers. In reality, the number of goose calling contests across the country is on the decline and it will be difficult to spread the qualifying contests evenly. The lion’s share of goose calling contests are in the East and Midwest. The staff at CallingDucks.com will be as considerate as possible when it comes to identifying the qualifying contests, but we need to provide enough opportunities (pushing for at least 20). It is the hope of Krugerfarms.com that the point race will help entice organizers to hold more youth calling contests, especially those for Canada goose.
Each division in the “Krugerfarms.com Cup” will culminate with the respective World Championship contests, and they will be worth a higher point total than the qualifying contests. For the youth Canada goose callers, the final event will be the Junior World Goose Calling Championship in Easton, Maryland which is normally held the 2nd weekend in November. For the youth duck callers, the final event will be the Intermediate World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas held the weekend after Thanksgiving each year.
For each youth World Championship calling contest the points awarded will break down like this:
Total points awarded per contest30
Points awarded for 1st place15
Points awarded for 2nd place8
Points awarded for 3rd place6
Points awarded for 4th place4
Points awarded for 5th place2
Since the objective of the “Krugerfarms.com Cup” is to promote participation in calling contests by youth, there will be only a few rules that qualifying contests must abide by in order to participate:
• The contest must be OPEN to anyone that is 16 years of age and younger at the time of the contest.
• The contest must submit their complete results to CallingDucks.com (scores per caller, per round, per judge). This can be done using the “Live Contest Scoring” system or THE APPROPRIATE SPREADSHEET that can be DOWNLOADED (see below) from CallingDucks.com (printed or electronic copy). Information MUST be supplied for ALL callers in the field, NOT just the top five.
• Anyone eligible for a qualifying contest can earn points by winning or placing. If they become ineligible (turn 17) before the end of the points race, their total remains intact even though they might not be able to compete in further qualifying contests.

The staff at CallingDucks.com would like to ask everyone to applaud Krugerfarms.com in sponsoring this effort. The future of the sport of contest calling is dependent on the participation of our Youth. Taking a broader view, the future of waterfowl hunting in general is dependent on the participation of our Youth. We believe that greater numbers of youth participants in the sport of contest calling will equate to an overall increase in the number who take to the field. We also believe that the “Krugerfarms.com Cup” will be a definite incentive for a greater number of youth to take to the stage. Great idea Krugerfarms.com! We are glad that we can help facilitate this effort.
